The project started in 2009 and will finish in 2012 when we aim to have achieved the following goals:
Corvo Island
To create a seabird colony based in artificial nests, with an expected occupancy rate of 10%.
To create a predator-free area that will be managed to improve breeding habitat for seabirds.
To survey and map the exotic invasive plant species in Corvo.
To train groups in Corvo in techniques to control and eradicate invasive alien plant species.
To study and produce a concise best-practice guide for invasive alien rodents control and eradication in inhabited islands.
To list and tag all domestic cats in the island.
To prepare an operational plan for the eradication of rats, cats. goats and sheep from the island.
To produce public awareness contents to be presented in the environmental centre and improve tourist pedestrian tracks.
To produce signs, maps, leaflets and audio-visual content about the fauna of Corvo.
To create an interactive virtual centre about the seabirds of Azores.
Vila Franca do Campo Islet
To evaluate the presence and if necessary to eradicate rats and mice.
To define preventive measures to avoid future recolonization by rodents.
To build 150 artificial nests to improve seabird breeding conditions, with an
expected occupancy rate of 10%.
To control exotic invasive plant species in at least 50% of the area of the islet.
